ReplyDeleteContrasting to what most may believe, Matadors are more than "cookie cutter Cupertino kids." Monta Vista is more than just an academic school and should not be taken granted of. People wish they could go to a different school that has less pressure, but our school is unique for many things. We held the "Every 15 minutes.." assembly and put on a WHOLE production demonstrating the risks of drunk driving. We have spirit weeks all the time to pump Matadors up for rallies and dances. A whole week focused on diversity? Signs around the school to relieve stress? An excellent leadership program of students who devote so much of their time to create these fun and amazing events cannot be found in every school.

ReplyDeleteIf you haven't heard, Evergreen High School students went to extremes to save their beloved sports. The staff told the students that they would have to raise $1 million in order to keep all sports in school for just the year of 2009-2010. The high school students decided it was worth it. They organized a 5k run on campus on Sunday, May 3 in the efforts of raising at least $500,000.
ReplyDeleteThe issue of eliminating sports is a nationwide, as everyone is trying to conserve money in the midst of this economic crisis. However, there are some schools that decided to save money by cutting seasons short, a much more beneficial alternative to throwing sports away all together. The Florida High School Athletic Association decided on cutting sports by trimming the number of Varsity games down by 20 percent and the number of any level lower than Varsity by 40 percent. Even gradual changes like these can save money for the school and also satisfy students.
According to an article on the health cost burdens in America, medical research spendings would be 9% lower if obesity was not a major medical concern.
