Audio Slideshow Preview

The next project that you will begin is an audio slideshow project. In preparation for this project, I'd like you to preview lots of different types of audioslideshows. After watching the ones I choose, you will seek out a few of your own and answer a few questions about them. Always keep in mind these questions:

  • What works? What doesn't work?
  • How does this make me feel, and how did the photographer/editor set it up to make me feel that way?
  • What is the story being told?
Voices from a divided Prom

Ballet at the Vaganova

An ambush and a comrade lost

The tradition of Super Sunday

The ghosts of Katrina

Now that you have viewed these, find your own and share them with the group. Please search for three different audioslideshows, copy and paste the links into the comments of this post, along with a short description of the slideshow.

Then, visit the links that others have posted, and comment on their comment if you liked it so that others will go see it, too.

A few news sites that have audio slideshows are the New York Times, The Times-Picayune, and the San Jose Mercury News, among lots and lots of others.

After you have viewed and commented on several slideshows, begin planning your own. What story will you tell? Will it be a feature or a commentary? What images will accompany your story?

For Thursday, you should bering in a plan for your project.

This audio slideshow is about virgins in Swaziland who have to dance bare-breasted for the king, in order to attract his eyes and have him appoint them as his wife. This audio slideshow has a lot of local color, as it has the native African song and music playing in the background.

This is a story about a couple that has adopted 7 children with three of their own already. During Christmas, they also accept people from outside that have no where to go. In this slideshow, they have the background noise of the children and everything they say, with fragments broken with the mother's narration. In addition, they match up the pictures with what is going on in this narration. For example, they recorded the mother getting the children ready for a prayer, so along with that audio they include a picture of the family praying.

The audio slideshow about men's fashion on the street was funny. Some of the outfits were really extreme.
Then the other one about people swimming in 34 degree water was interesting, too! The person that was being interviewed sounded kinda full of themselves, though. xD

The slideshow called Women on Stage is very nice because it shows people stars that we are not used to seeing. The people featured are big stars but we don't see them everyday. The photographer did a good job of capturing these artists in their best angles, while performing, so that we almost got a taste of how they look on stage.

  67. Making a Millionaire - This slideshow was really good because it showed Boyle reflecting on his experience filming in Mumbai, and learning about everything that was going on behind the scenes was really interesting.

Donkey Ball - This is a good slideshow and it introduced me to a surprising new game that seems really harmful, yet it continues to be played.
