Draw a comparison

Creating a comparison or analogy to your argument can have the effect of taking an issue that may be abstract to the reader and making it more familiar by relating it to something the reader already understands.

Example: Refusing to drink tap water and drinking bottled water instead is like being offered a sandwich for free but turning the offer down because you'd rather buy a mystery sandwich that could be worse than the free sandwich. And on top of that, the mystery sandwich damages the environment!

Using your own sample argument, draw a comparison or create an analogy by commenting below.

  1. If insurance stays in the high range, the average society would not be able to afford it. Its like a venemous snake waiting to catch the prey, the ordinary, middle class society. If health care lowers, and is affordable then the economy would benefit from this action.

Refusing to wash your hands and using sanitizers is similar to walking toward a dog with Rabies because you have a chance to protect yourself, yet you are inviting the virus. It's easily spread, but more easily stopped.

By having health care and encouraging others to do the same, you can ensure that you lead a safe life, and are prepared for the unexpected. On top of that, staying healthy makes you both physically and mentally well.

  6. Saying "no" to stricter smoking laws in California and across the nation is like saying "no" to a healthy, disease-free life.
Saying "yes" to the same smoking laws we have now in California and none in other states is like saying "yes" to an offer of ingesting hydrogen cyanide, benzene, beryllium, and formaldehyde. Yummy!

Devices that can do everything help us save time so we can spend that later. But we just continue saving time and then use the time saved to do more.

The unreliability of writing an essay thats half your grade is like dangling your work over a paper shredder. Think about it, a lot of things can go wrong. Computer can break down, printer can break down, software can go wrong, and the list goes on...

Condemning people who do not follow your values and commitments is like telling people their religion is stupid. Suppose you were to tell someone what they are missing out on if they don't eat beef. This is just like telling someone that they shouldn't study all the time and should have a social life. You are criticizing how they want to live their life.

Remaining in Iraq is like getting yourself into neck-deep water, searching for your wedding ring. But even though you can't find it, you dive again, insisting that there is still a reason to stay there until you've gone too far to surface again.

Think about it; there is a truck coming at a person in front of you lying on the ground, you have enough time to push the girl and give her a minor injury but you'll never make it across. So you sprint across and try to save the girl but you realize she is already dead. So the fact of trying to get a award for being a hero you kill yourself. This all could have been prevented if you just did nothing. It's all because of you. You had control and you abused it.

Buying a hybrid benefits us and the environment in ways exercising benefits our bodies. Hybrids do not recklessly send out emissions and actually saves us money; it's a win-win situation. Similarly, exercising protects our health and costs us nothing. Again, it's another win-win situation.

The students from Palm Beach County High School in Palm Beach, Florida are upset with the gradual cut of sports games, but they are grateful that their sports weren't depleted all together. East San Jose high school students are deeply disturbed since all of their sports will be taken away. This shows that a gradual appease of sports will lessen the anger and disappointment in students.
